What is a Web-connected printer?
HP's new printers connect to the Internet, enabling these key benefits:

• HP ePrint – Print from anywhere by sending to your printer's email address, no special software required.
• Print apps – Instant access to relevant, printable web content from your printer's control panel, for select models.
• HP ePrintCenter – See your printer status, add and remove print apps, and manage ePrint settings and job history from any Web browser, at home or on the go.

In order to use these features, your printer must be connected to a network with Internet access.

Introducing ePrint

What is ePrint?

HP ePrint lets you print from virtually anywhere. Once enabled, ePrint assigns an email address to your printer. To print, simply send an email containing your document to your printer's address. You can print images, Microsoft Word, Excel* and PowerPoint documents, PDFs, and photos. You can view and manage print jobs sent to your printer using your printer Job History that is available on HP ePrintCenter.

Note: HP ePrint provides convenience printing. Documents printed with ePrint may appear different from the original. Style, formatting, and text flow may differ slightly from the original document. For documents that need to be printed with a higher quality (such as legal documents), we recommend that you print from the software application on your computer, where you will have more control over how your printouts appear.

How does ePrint work?

When you send an email to your printer's email address, the HP ePrint service will securely print the email and any supported attachments.

What printers are ePrint enabled?

How much does ePrint cost?

The HP ePrint service is available free of charge with your HP ePrint-enabled printer.

What email clients can I use to send an ePrint job?

The following email clients have been tested by HP ePrint*:

• Outlook 2003, 2007
• Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail
• Apple Mail (iPhone, iPad, Macbook, MacbookPro )
• BlackBerry mail client
• Nokia/Symbian client (Nokia)

Sending and Printing Email

Does my printer have to be connected to the Internet?

To receive email, your printer must be connected to the Internet on a wired or wireless network.

Note: If you use a USB cable to connect your printer to your PC you will also need to connect the printer to the Internet in order to use ePrint. HP ePrint requires an active network connection to the printer.

How do I find my printer's email address?

You can find your HP ePrint email address in these ways:

• Your email address appears on the information sheet that prints from your printer when you activate the service.
• For PhotoSmart: On the printer's front panel display, touch  icon (4.3” display only) to display the email address or Wireless>Web Services>Display Email.
• For OfficeJet: On the printer's front panel display, touch Setup>Web Services Setup>Printer Email Address to reprint the information sheet.
• PhotoSmart Only: If you register your printer at ePrintCenter.com, your email address displays on the ePrint panel.
• For LaserJet: On the printer's front panel display, touch  icon (4.3” display only) or “How to Connect” to display the email address. For LaserJet printers with the small 2 line display, please print out the information sheet to see the email address.

What attachment file types are supported?

The HP ePrint service will print email attachments for the following file types automatically:

• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft PowerPoint
• Microsoft Outlook
• Microsoft Excel*
• HTML
• Text files (.txt)
• PDF
• Images (bmp, jpg, png, gif, tiff)

* It is strongly recommended that you preview documents in Excel before printing.

The HP ePrint service does not support printing web pages via email at this time. HP is currently developing dedicated solutions to support web page printing from mobile devices.

Note: Image files (like jpeg, bmp, tiff, etc) need to be at least 100DPI in order to print via ePrint.

PGP encryption, digitally signed documents, macro-enabled spreadsheets and password-protected documents are not supported by ePrint at this time and will not print.

Do email attachments have size limits?

Yes, there is a 5 MB total limit to the email including attachments. HP ePrint supports a maximum of 10 attachments to a single email. Emails that exceed these limits will not print.

How long does it take to print an email?

Your printer must be connected to the Internet for you to receive email. Your email will print as soon as it is received. As with any email, there is no guarantee when or if it will be received. When you register online at ePrintCenter, you can check the status of your jobs.

The ePrint service will send a print job as soon as it is received. As long as the printer is on, ready to print, and connected to the Internet, it can process an ePrint job.

If the ePrint service can't connect to your printer, print jobs will remain on the server for 24 hours.

Note: If you use a USB cable to connect your printer to your PC, you will also need to connect the printer to the Internet in order to use ePrint. HP ePrint requires an active network connection to the printer.

How do I check the status of an ePrint print job?

Go to ePrintCenter at hpeprintcenter.com and register your printer. Once registered, you can check the status of print jobs and specify who is allowed to print to your printer. You can manage and see the status of your ePrint print jobs using the ePrint Job History on HP ePrintCenter, by selecting the printer's tab.

Managing ePrint Security

Who can use ePrint on my printer?

When you first enable ePrint, the printer is in “unlocked mode.” In unlocked mode, anyone who knows your printer's email address can print to it using the ePrint service. While we wanted to offer this convenience, it means that you need to be careful regarding to whom you share your printer's email address as everything they email to that address will be printed on your printer. You may want to be selective when giving out your printer's email address so that you don't receive printouts that you don't want.

How can I restrict who uses ePrint on my printer?

You can lock ePrint to make it more secure. To change to locked mode, visit hpeprintcenter.com and register your printer. When you register, you can change your mode and specify who is allowed to print to your printer. You can specify up to 500 email addresses that are allowed to print; email from any other addresses will be ignored.

Whether you're using ePrint in unlocked or locked mode, it's a good idea to keep the email address of your printer confidential -- only give it out to people you know and trust.

Is my email data safe?

HP sends attachments over a secure connection to your printer to protect your data, but we cannot ensure the security of email before it is received by HP.

How do I prevent spam from being sent to my printer?

• ePrint assigns a random email address to your printer that follows a government standard for providing anonymous addresses.
• To help keep your email address confidential: Register online at hpeprintcenter.com, change your settings to locked mode, and then add email addresses to your list of authorized senders.
• Don't use the printer's email address to register for other online sites.

Enabling HP Web Services and Configuring HP ePrint for LaserJet Printers

How do I update my LaserJet printer to include HP Web Services?

If your LaserJet product supports HP Web Services, but the services were not included when you bought it, you can add HP Web Services by updating the product firmware. To determine if HP Web Services are installed, follow these instructions:

1. Print a configuration page from your product, and locate the IP address.
2. At your computer, open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line. The HP Embedded Web Server opens.
3. If an HP Web Services tab does not appear on the HP Embedded Web Sever, update your product. Go to www.hp.com/go/eprint for instructions.

How do I enable HP Web Services for my LaserJet printer?

To use HP ePrint, you must first enable HP Web Services.

1. Print a configuration page from your product, and locate the IP address.
2. At your computer, open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line. The HP Embedded Web Server opens.
3. Click the “HP Web Services” tab.
4. Select the option to enable Web Services.
5. When Web Services are enabled, ePrint information appears in the HP Embedded Web Server. Look for the e-mail address that is automatically assigned to the product. The product also prints an HP Web Services page that contains this e-mail address and instructions for using the service.

How do I disable HP Web Services for my LaserJet printer?

If you need to remove web services from your printer, disable web services as follows:

1. Print a configuration page from your product, and locate the IP address.
2. At your computer, open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line. The HP Embedded Web Server opens.
3. Click the “HP Web Services” tab.
4. Select the option to disable Web Services. This will turn off ePrint and Print Apps for your printer.

How do I print the Web Services Information Sheet for my LaserJet printer?

There may be times when you need to re-print the information sheet for your printer that includes the email address. You can only add the printer to your HP ePrintCenter account within 24 hours after printing the information sheet, but you can re-print the sheet at any time from the printer control panel.

1. Print a configuration page from your product, and locate the IP address.
2. At your computer, open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line. The HP Embedded Web Server opens.
3. Click the “HP Web Services” tab.
4. Click the Print Information Sheet button.

Disabling ePrint

How do I turn off the ePrint service?

To disable ePrint, use the display on the printer's front panel and touch Wireless>Web Services>Remove Web Services (for PhotoSmart) or Setup>Web Services Setup>Restore Factory Settings (for OfficeJet) or (for LaserJet), go to the Web browser, enter the printer's IP address, Click the “HP Web Services” tab, and then select the option to disable Web Services. This will remove the printer from your ePrintCenter account, as well as delete your printer's ePrint email account and ePrint history & settings from ePrintCenter. If you are using print apps, it will also delete all print app settings and configuration data (if applicable). You will need to redo print app settings if you choose to re-enable Web services.

If you enable Web Services at a later time, your printer will receive a new email address for ePrint and the previous email address will not be functional.

If you registered your printer's email address at hpeprintcenter.com, you must log in to delete your account.
